Set right on Whitianga’s main beachfront, this project was a major renovation and a complete transformation of an existing home on a compact site.
The brief was to create a purpose-built coastal retreat where the whole family — including children and grandchildren — could come together and enjoy such an incredible location, while still having plenty of their own space.
With the beach literally across the road, the design focused on making the most of every square metre and capturing the outlook wherever possible. The renovation introduced light-filled living spaces, a fresh coastal palette, warm timber detailing and a much more practical layout for relaxed family holidays.
Despite the site constraints, the finished home feels generous, comfortable and incredibly connected to its surroundings. Indoor and outdoor living flow easily together, with spaces designed for entertaining, unwinding and making the most of long summer days by the water.
The result is a dramatic before-and-after transformation — a tired beach house reimagined as a modern family retreat in one of Whitianga’s best beachfront positions.
